Daily Art, Craft & Activity Prompts for Babies, Toddlers & Preschoolers!
This week we are trying something new! Daily prompts to encourage creativity in kids! These prompts can be as simple or as complex as you like & can be interpreted in hundreds of different ways! I will be posting activities daily within these prompts on our Instagram page, which you can follow along & join in if you like!
These prompts were made to encourage simple daily activities focusing on different developmental skills and learning through play! You don’t need expensive products – you can find supplies for each of these prompts in & around your home!
We’d love you to join us in our Daily Art, Craft & Activity Prompts;
Messy Monday – Say good bye to ‘Mondayitis’ with a messy art or activity! Play in the mud, the rain, make an art mural or paint your body. I have a feeling Monday’s won’t be so bad with a prompt like this! Messy play is an important part of childhood & holds many learning opportunities to support growth & development. Grab a drop sheet, a paint smock, wipes, a hose & a towel – with clear boundaries & guidelines, messy play IS doable without being overwhelming!
Tinker Tuesday – Construct & deconstruct. Start collecting bits & pieces to create your own Tinker Trays for Tinker Tuesday! Collect lids, boxes, string, sticky tape, glue, paddle pop sticks, paper scraps, pegs, straws, cups, pipe cleaners etc. Lay out your materials & let your child tinker away.
Teamwork Wednesday – As important as it is to allow your children to play on their own through self directed play, it is just as important for you to join in, in play with your children. This is teaching & encouraging turn taking, sharing, patience, teamwork, negotiation, listening, communication, problem solving, social skills, language & more. What type of activities can you do on Teamwork Wednesdays? Cooking/baking, indoor/outdoor obstacle course, building blocks, stacking cups, board games, balloon tennis, lego etc.
Pretend Play Thursday – There are so many ways to create simulating & inviting pretend play experiences for children. Where to start? Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up! A doctor? – set up pretend play hospital & care for your dolls or siblings! A ballerina? – dress up as a ballerina, put on some music & practice your pirouettes! A fireman? – Do you smell a fire?! Make a fire with toilet rolls & tissue paper, then put it out with shredded blue paper! A mum/dad? – Give your dolls a warm soapy bath and hand wash all your dolls clothes! A shop owner? – Make some pretend money & sell some food from the pantry! A veterinarian? – Care for your soft toys with a pretend play animal hospital!
Fine Motor Friday – Working those little hand & finger muscles in the early years are important! They’re getting them ready for skills such as writing, cutting, buttoning, zipping, etc. What are your favourite fine motor activities? Need some inspiration? Try play dough, tweezer activities, cutting, writing, finger painting, threading, buttoning, zipping, scooping, pouring etc!
Scribble Saturday – How many ways can you interpret scribble? Scribble Saturdays are all about pencils, crayons, pens, chalk, stamps, texta’s etc & paper. Whether that be drawing, colouring, writing, water colour painting, tracing or practicing number & letter recognition! Make a collage, paper planes or a puzzle, take a clip board outside for some nature drawings & rubbings, draw & write on sticky notes, make pirate maps or origami.
Sensory Sunday – Explore the senses on Sundays! Touch – Sight – Taste – Smell – Hear! Whether you have babies, toddlers or preschoolers, there are hundreds of ways to explore your senses through play! Create a touch board with different materials & textures for your baby to explore, make scented paint to smell & identify, add bells to your wrist while you paint! Cook a big pot of spaghetti and colour it rainbow for your children to explore & play with!
